The Ultimate Lockdown Debate
The ultimate lockdown debate – is working at home great or bad for creatives. This is what Robin, our founder, has to say.
“Creativity comes from spontaneous meetings, from random discussions. You run into someone, you ask what they’re doing, you say ‘Wow,’ and soon you’re cooking up all sorts of ideas.”
Steve Jobs summed up why I think working from home isn’t a good permanent option. While we have all adapted to the new norm, creativity doesn’t happen in a vacuum. You need that buzz, the great vibe you get when you work in a great office. It’s one reason why we hold daily online meetings to try & emulate that sensation. I’ve also encouraged everyone to find their own ways to fuel their creativity. It could be walking the dog, reading lots of design books or drinking gin – whatever works!
I do think working from home has a place. The best creatives are those that remain curious & enjoy experiencing different things, so it stands to reason that occasionally working in different surroundings is going to help the creative process.
But now some of our staff are back in the office, I’ve noticed an interesting dynamic. When some people are in & others are working from home, the ones at home experience FOMO. Another challenge when people work remotely.
